The Agricultural Systems program in
the Department of Plant, Soil, and Agricultural Systems offers many
wonderful
opportunities to students pursuing careers in areas of agriculture such
as:

Production Agriculture
Agricultural Education
Agricultural Mechanization
Agricultural Systems
The Agricultural Systems program prepares students for "real world"
career positions in such places as seed companies, agricultural
industries, large-scale farms, plant breeding facilities, farm equipment
manufacturers, fertilizer companies, schools, or colleges and
government agencies. The program also helps prepare students for
advanced education and graduate school should they choose to continue
their education, and even offers graduate
degrees.
The Agricultural Systems program
combines outstanding, nationally recognized faculty, opportunities for practical experience such as
internships and
student work, and a wealth of student
organizations with a flexible curriculum that students can customize
to fit their specific career goals. One significant way that
students can customize their curriculum is by declaring a
specialization. The
specializations for the Agricultural Systems program are:

General Agriculture: A broad-based curriculum that supports students in all areas of
Agricultural Systems.
Agricultural Systems Technology: A curriculum combining an understanding of
agricultural, biological, and physical sciences with managerial and
technical skills.
Agricultural Production: Curriculum teaching principles of feed, crop, and
animal/livestock production as well as soil science, farm management, and
even agribusiness.
Agricultural Education: An extensive curriculum giving students technical
and professional training needed to become an agriculture teacher in a
secondary school or for employment in agribusiness or industry. It
is interesting to note that SIU-C has the largest Agricultural Education program in Illinois!
By providing students with exceptional academics
and numerous opportunities to develop experience and interpersonal skills,
the Agricultural Systems program hopes to create students who are ready
to face the challenges of the "real world" and who can compete confidently
with graduates from any other university in the U.S.
